Our Story

A classic Carvel ice cream building converted over four decades ago into Sea Swirl.

Family Owned & Operated

Sea Swirl of Mystic was formerly a street side Carvel Ice Cream shop. It is located at 30 Williams Avenue at the junction of Routes 1 & 27 in Connecticut. Sea Swirl offers the best of fried clams and fantastic seafood plus has one of the most beautiful sunsets on the horizon. Outdoor dining overlooks the flood tide and customers can enjoy delicious ice cream as well.

Sea Swirl may seem like an unlikely place to find four-star food, but for many years now, it has sustained a deserved reputation as one of the finest places to eat fried clams, especially the whole-belly variety. Sea Swirl serves a full roster of expertly fried seafood, including scallops, shrimp and fish. For an alternative to seafood, there are hamburgers, hotdogs, chicken sandwiches and don’t forget our creamy soft serve ice cream with flavor burst options.

Green Friendly Matters to Us

At Sea Swirl, we prioritize environmental sustainability by sourcing all our to-go containers and products from eco-friendly materials. Our commitment extends to using biodegradable containers made from plant-based resources and recycled paper, ensuring minimal impact on the planet. Furthermore, we partner with local suppliers whenever possible, supporting nearby businesses that share our vision of reducing carbon footprints. By incorporating products like sustainably sourced straws, we reinforce our dedication to preserving the environment while providing our customers with quality service. Even our fryer oil is recycled.

Top Quality Goes into Everything We Make

Seafood

Locally harvested seafood from Seawell in Stonington. Sea Well is a family owned and operated fish market. They offer a wide selection of local hand cut fish, shellfish and lobsters from their own fishing boats as well as from other local fisherman from Connecticut and Rhode Island. They specialize in locally caught lobsters, fish & shellfish

The shellfish has been meticuously sourced from Ipswitch, MA which is arguably the birth place of fried clams. It was Ipswitch clams that the famed Howard Johnson clam strips were made from.

Dairy

Happy cows means happy customers! All our diary products come from Winsor S.B. Dairy in Rhode Island. The dairy farm has been operating since 1908 and incorporated in 1959 so they know a thing or two about dairy farming.

Bread

We partner with local bakeries to bring fresh baked bread products. One of our partners is Whitecrest Eatery in Stonington. You can try the Whitecrest sourdough bread on our delicious BLT.

Hotdogs

Everybody loves our hotdogs and we do too. Our all beef hotdogs come from Kayem in Massachusetts. Since 1909 Kayem has been a name people trust to deliver the highest quality meats. For four generations they have making the products we love.
